30 Pictures

It's been super busy at work lately and I haven't had the energy to take pictures, talk about much, or be original in general. But I thought this was fancy: Over at For Me, For You, Kate dug around her old photos and posted "30 Pictures" (an idea she got from Sandra Juto). It's a reminiscing-kind of day.

Back To The Future

Surreal, comedic and sweet. Check her out.

"I love old photos. I admit being a nosey photographer. As soon as I step into someone else’s house, I start sniffing for them. Most of us are fascinated by their retro look but to me, it’s imagining how people would feel and look like if they were to reenact them today... A few months ago, I decided to actually do this. So, with my camera, I started inviting people to go back to their future."

The Jig

I was cleaning out my desk at work, and found the "RAW" cd from my photographer. On there, I found a few .mov files of the dancing that commenced after the rain began to pour and the reception had just begun. So I did a little video mixing and this is what I came out with. I would have put a Phantoms of the Opry track over it, but—what do you know—I haven't got any. Rest to sure this song probably played sometime throughout the night, and the lead singer sounds uncannily like Hank Snr. I can't thank all our guests and band enough for being so freaking cool and fun; They made the evening a blast regardless the weather.

What We Do On Sunday

The weather has been insane here and I'm soaking it up all I can. We even opened the windows today! Sean made a fantastic breakfast: cast iron pancake with bacon, and we blessed it with, our old neighbor, Emily Farris's ground cherry jam (which she gave us as a leaving-Kansas City present). We went on a long walk up Sunshine Canyon and now the dogs are beat — Thank god. Oh! And I cut all my hair off.

Our Wedding Invites

One of my cousins, if that's what you might call her (family is family), is getting married this August and has asked me to do her invitations! She's got a lot of good ideas and I'm super excited. But then I thought, damn! I haven't even documented my own. So I finally got around to shooting these puppies, and here they are. I'll be excited to work on hers as well and I'll share those soon (the turn-around is going to be quick).

Our entire inspiration spurred from our love for Harry's Country Club and the undeniable culture they've created (we even hired the band that frequents Harry's to play at the reception). We used a language we thought fit the bill ("Holler," "Feasting & Fandango," etc.) and curated vintage postcards for R.S.V.P cards (featuring landscapes that blur the lines between Texas, Arkansas, and Missouri). We were lucky enough to have a friend at Skylab, so he really helped us out and did such a great job printing every piece. You can check out the previous post, where I followed Nick around and watched him print the invites above. What an awesome day that was.

Graphic USA

IMG_3588

Well, well. It's finally published, printed, and out there for purchasing.

Last year, Ramzy flattered me and asked to collaborate with him on a book project; He had been approached by Ziggy Hanaor (illustrator, author and editor) with Cicado Books in London to represent Kansas City in a new publication she was putting together: an "alternative guide to 25 cities." As you can imagine, I was thrilled to contribute! I love Kansas City, and I was eager to share my favorite places with anyone willing to listen—or read in this case.

We had a riot writing about the best of KC, sometimes in a way some might view as negative; But if you read between the lines you'll feel the heart in it all, the love for the strange, the rough and the "salty"; We approached the reviews strategically, and came from a place we thought other creatives would appreciate. Ramzy did a fantastic job with the illustrations too, but I can't take credit for any of that—that's all on him.

Graphic USA brings together a slew of talented designers and illustrators from across the States to create an unconventional and visually stunning tour of their towns. Through a collection of restaurants, bars, shopping and cultural hot-spots, it's a one of those "best of" books that adds an artistic spin to each city.
